Preparation

I spent more than two hours on music yesterday, and didn't touch an instrument! It took a long time to get my wireless printer back my the network. Then, I went through each of the three video lessons I'm starting with, and downloaded the music/tab sheets onto my computer. Tonight I'll start printing each one, for a folder to carry around with me all the time. The idea is refer to the sheets after the lessons, to keep it all fresh.

I don't know if it will work - but it's worth a shot. I'll check in tomorrow.

The First Wave

The first few months of my plan for rhythm guitar mastery, is quite simple. Here was my resolution for the new year on Facebook:

"No grandiose New Year resolutions this time. Keeping it simple. Limit my sleep to just six hours each night; and using those extra two hours on music, and casually looking for my seventh ex-fiancee."

While aiming for two hours of practice each day is unrealistic, it is admirable. At least by devoting more time for practice, I'm better off than I have been.

Now, what to practice? Over the past year I've purchased quite a few online video guitar courses from Truefire, but never taken a systematic approach to using them. I'll be starting with these three:

Hopefully, I'll be on to three more by April:

I'll also be learning as much as I can, watching live performances and tutorials, of The Master of Rhythm Guitar; Mr. Keith Richards. Anyone who knows me how obsessed I am with his playing.

I'll let you know how I'm doing.

A Re-Introduction

My last post on this blog was on April 29, 2015. It was a picture of Keith Richards' signature 5 string Telecaster "Micawber", with the title, "The Most Important Guitar in Rock 'n Roll". I still stand by that statement.

Much has happened to me personally, since 2015. The most important; I've thrown myself back into music. For better or worse; I've decided it is the only thing that will keep me content, for the rest of my time on this planet. This blog is now a record of my struggles with dealing with six strings, rather than four.

Keep in mind; I am not planning on becoming a lead guitar player. Don't have the time, patience, or ego for that slippery slope. I want to learn to play a competent rhythm guitar, a goal beyond the reach of most. I figure I have an edge; having played bass guitar and worked with brilliant drummers over the years. We shall see!
